Mission Statement

“The UCSD Family Medicine Wellness Committee serves to provide space, support and encourage resiliency for our fellow colleagues during the challenging years of residency. By acknowledging the value in the health of our healers, we are helping foster the development of a well-rounded physician.”

In the Fall of 2015, several of our family medicine residents came together for one goal: to better foster health and wellness for our fellow residents. We have now developed several means to foster connection and support for our residents.

FM Wellness Initiatives

- Wellness on-call resident: providing a designated resident year round who is available as a source of support as well as check-ins for residents and interns on particularly difficult blocks via the virtual Wellness Pager

- Birthday acknowledgments

- Wellness Buddies for intern support

- Organizing monthly group activities such as yoga, hikes and surf/beach days

- Potlucks

- Healthy snacks for the inpatient team

- Text page check-ins

Family Medicine Sponsored

In addition to the FM Wellness Committee, the UCSD Department of Family Medicine implements several key initiatives into our learning and development as a physician.

 Including:

- Monthly sign-out dinners (to help residents exchange tips for upcoming rotations)

- RAFT (quarterly off site afternoons centered on team development and program bonding)

- Annual residency retreat weekend

- Balint/intern support
